Description<br />
Doxycycline belongs to the group of tetracyclines and has bacteriostatic action against many Gram-positive<br />
and Gram-negative bacteria, like Staphylococcus spp., Diplococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus spp.,<br />
Haemophilus influenza, E. coli, Pneumococcus, Bacillus anthracis, Clostridium tetani and Cl. perfringens,<br />
Listeria monocytogenes, Actinomyces spp., Enterobacter spp, Klebsiella spp., Salmonella sp., Shigella spp.<br />
and Yersinia spp. Doxycycline is also active against Mycoplasma spp., Rickettsiae and Chlamydia spp. After<br />
oral administration, doxycycline is well absorbed and results in a fast active blood level, which remains high<br />
for a long period (due to the relatively long half- time value of doxycycline).<br />
Indications<br />
Doxycycline hyclate is effective against infections caused by micro-organisms sensitive to doxycycline,<br />
especially respiratory infections in calves, pigs and poultry.<br />
Contra-indications<br />
Do not administer to animals hypersensitive to tetracyclines. Do not administer to animals with severe liver<br />
and/or kidney dysfunctions.<br />
Side-effects<br />
Discolouration of teeth in young animals.<br />
Incompatibility with other drugs or substances<br />
Do not combine with penicillins, cephalosporins, quinolones, cycloserine,<br />
Dosage and administration<br />
For oral administration via feed or drinking water.<br />
Calves, pigs : 5 mg per kg bodyweight, twice daily, during 3 - 5 days.<br />
Poultry : 50 - 100 g per 1,000 litres of drinking water daily, during 4 - 5 days.<br />
Mixed with feed, the product should be used immediately. Medicated drinking water should be used within 24<br />
hours.<br />
Withdrawal period<br />
Meat : 8 days<br />
Eggs : 14 days<br />
Storage<br />
Store in a dry, dark place between 2 C and 25 C.<br />
Store in closed packing.<br />
Keep medicine away from children.<br />
Packing<br />
PE-Pharma jar of 500 / 1,000 g (12 jars per box).<br />
Bucket of 3 / 5 kg.<br />
